It was my birthday last week and we decided to only have fun that day. The best part was that it was a super sunny and warm day, which is what makes me happy. I am such a cold pansy. I had been waiting and watching for Mary’s Peak to clear off for quite a few days and this ended up being the first day that it was a cloudless sky. So we packed up for a quick trip to walk to the peak. Except there is a really pretty spot to stop on the way, so we did.
I’ve been purposeful about going out with my own kids more often, but also keeping in mind how to get better and better about providing a story in pictures of the day. Often that means getting photos of the details. Other times, it can end up being a happy accident that I end up taking some pictures that fill in some details that I didn’t even know about until the kids told me later. Keep that thought in mind when you look at this photo of Silas and Heidi playing off in the distance.
Once we arrived at the parking lot, the first order of business was to leap from rock to rock, all the way from one end of the parking lot to the other.
It was a LONG WAY.
The kids came back panting and thirsty.
I’ve found that my kids have a much better time on a hike when friends are along. So we brought Silas too.
Silas still has baseball going on, so stopping to throw rocks at a target was a common break.
This unforeseen treasure that we found was the highlight of the trip for the kids: snow!!
Remember that photo of Heidi and Silas off in the distance? When we made it to the top of Mary’s Peak, Silas spotted this ant. He said that he had been bitten by one of these ants right when I happened to take the photo earlier. I had wondered why he was dancing around out there and now I knew.
This whole adventure ended up being an easy walk to the top, while filled with many breaks and times for playing. I’ve found that’s the key for having a good time with the kids, as well as giving me the opportunity to grab a bunch of photos as everything unfolds.
The kids thought of everything. While I was goofing around and checking out all the views before leaving, the kids pulled out their mitts and baseball. Good thinking!
