Another week, another adventure! Memorial Day weekend started early for us on Friday morning, as we tried to beat the crowds to a normally crowded spot: Opal Creek.
We had an impromptu educational session on which tree is which. We learned there are lots of hemlock in this area.
Our brand of hiking has turned into beginning a walk at a decent pace, but then we tend to get distracted. The theme for this hike was to find the highest point and pose. I’m thankful at our distractions because it adds to the memories and gives me a chance to keep caught up with all the action.
I’m thankful when Jema has her camera along as well. She catches great shots on her little wide angle lens.
Details are fun to slow down and inspect.
I think Judah ‘won’ the posing competition.
Lunchtime!
Whoa, 11 people!
I can see why this spot is so popular, with an awesome swimming hole for hot weather, an easy and level walking trail, and plenty of variety from the forest and stream, to the crazy little Jawbone Flats community.
Leaving early worked out for us. Check out the group we found at the trailhead, just about to head in.
